Trump’s New Year’s Eve speech renews’ Communist virus’

U.S. President Donald Trump returned to Washington from his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Thursday after an early holiday break. In a Twitter post, he summed up the work of the past year, praising his government’s efforts to fight the COVID-19 epidemic and rebuild the US economy, describing it as a “historic victory” and stressing: “We must remember what has been done.”

In his speech Thursday afternoon, Trump referred to the Courage, strength and determination of the American people as they faced the challenges of last year and came together to achieve truly historic victories. He again referred to the “Communist party virus”, describing it as a “medical miracle” as his government’s biggest operation since the second world war, producing ventilators and face masks, suspending air travel between China and Europe as soon as possible and successfully distributing vaccines to the public by the end of last year.

He thanked workers, scientists, doctors and members of the military for their efforts, and said people will not forget what Americans have done. He also praised the U.S. economy for reaching record highs both before and after the outbreak, and cited its role in securing peace deals in the Middle East. “We are clearly doing better than experts expected just a few months ago,” he said. “The US economy is growing faster than anyone else, faster than anyone else, in the best shape.”

Trump abruptly canceled a planned New Year’s banquet at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday and returned early to the White House. The White House did not say why Trump changed his schedule, but it is thought to be related to senate discussions on the National Defense Authorization Act, the increase in aid to US $2,000 per citizen (ABOUT HK $15,600) and dealing with Iran. The Senate will vote On Saturday on whether to override Trump’s veto of the National Defense Authorization Act.
