As 2020 draws to a close, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam has not only been called off from her duty visit to Beijing, but 44% of Hong Kong people gave her a 0 rating in the year-end poll. According to analysis, Lam, who has always been subservient to the Chinese Communist Party, has been instructed by the Chinese Communist Party to suppress the people of Hong Kong, but in the end, she is not happy at both ends.
According to a poll conducted by HKUPOP at the end of 2020, the latest rating of Carrie Lam is only 29.7, with a net popularity of negative 51 percentage points, 44% of Hong Kong people gave her 0 marks.
Regarding the performance of the SAR Government, the poll showed that only 17% of Hong Kong people were satisfied, while 60% were dissatisfied, giving a net value of negative 43 percentage points. 29% of the respondents trusted the SAR Government, 56% did not, giving a net value of negative 27 percentage points.
Looking ahead to next year, the poll found that about 34% of Hong Kong people said there would be improvement, while 39% said it would worsen, giving a net value of negative 6 percentage points.
The poll also shows that for the political condition, livelihood condition and economic condition in 2020, the net satisfaction rate of Hong Kong people are all negative, with negative 50, negative 51 and negative 59 percentage points respectively.
In the year-end survey, over 59% of the respondents said they were unhappy with their life in the past year, with a net happiness value (happiness minus unhappiness) of negative 45 percentage points, a record low since the survey was conducted in 1992. 31% said their personal development would be better in the coming year, 25% said it would be worse, with a net value of 6 percentage points.
POP’s deputy CEO, Chung Kin-wah, said the government has been totally unsuccessful in rebuilding people’s trust in the past year, even though Lam’s popularity once rose to above 30 marks, but it was all at a low point, and this time it has fallen through 30 marks again. 40 years have never seen such a big confidence crisis among Hong Kong people.
Carrie Lam, who has been working for the Chinese Communist Party, not only has her popularity in Hong Kong fallen below the lowest point, her duty visit to Beijing was also suddenly called off.
According to Sing Tao Daily, Lam was scheduled to meet with leaders in Beijing from December 10 to 14, but she was suddenly informed that her duty visit was cancelled. At the same time, Beijing openly criticized Lam for not doing enough to prevent and control the epidemic.
Zeng Guang, a member of the high-level expert group of the National health Commission of the Communist Party of China, said in a recent interview with the mainland media that Hong Kong’s epidemic prevention measures and policies have not been put in place, leading to the recurrence and severity of the epidemic, and will increase the pressure on Shenzhen‘s epidemic prevention.
The analysis believes that Lin Zheng’s visit to Beijing was called off and criticized for being ineffective in fighting the epidemic, which released the signal of Xi Jinping‘s dissatisfaction with Lin Zheng.
In addition to Beijing’s dissatisfaction with Lin Zheng, there is also a rare “anti-Lin Zheng” voice within the pro-Beijing Hong Kong establishment.
Recently, two key members of Hong Kong’s last chief executive, current CPPCC Vice Chairman Leung Chun-ying, Wat Ying-yin and Fung Wai-kwong, have openly criticized Lam’s lack of leadership, ineffectiveness in fighting the epidemic, and his “inability to do anything” about Hong Kong’s current predicament.
The pro-Beijing Hong Kong 01 boss Yu Pinhai also said that Lin Zheng proposed to amend the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance last year, which triggered the anti-sending of Chinese protests, and finally relied on the Central Government to calm down. He reminded Lin Zheng if he still can’t see clearly, there is a risk that even his political life will be on the line.
Since he became Hong Kong’s chief executive, Lam has been beholden to the Chinese Communist Party. When the anti-China protest movement broke out in Hong Kong, Lam was instructed by the Chinese Communist Party to suppress Hong Kong people and was eventually sanctioned by the United States.
It is believed that the reason behind this is not only the anti-China campaign in Hong Kong, but also Beijing’s dissatisfaction with the ineffectiveness of Lin Zheng’s fight against the epidemic.
