According to the website of Shenzhen Yantian District People’s Court on December 30, among the 12 Hong Kong people, Deng Kairan was sentenced to three years in prison and a fine of RMB 20,000 for organizing others to cross the border.
Qiao Yingyu was sentenced to two years in prison and a fine of RMB 15,000 for the same crime. Zheng Zihao, Yan Wenqian, Zhang Mingyu, Zhang Junfu, Huang Weiran, Li Zixian, Li Yuxuan and Guo Zilin were sentenced to 7 months in prison and a fine of RMB 10,000 for the crime of border-crossing.
The court said that after returning to the case, Deng Kai Ran and 10 others truthfully confessed the criminal facts and expressed their guilty pleas and punishments. According to the facts of the crime charged by the prosecuting authority, and the defense opinions of each defendant and the entrusted lawyer, Deng Kai Ran and Qiao Ying Yu were organized by others to commit the crime, and were accomplices in the joint crime, so they could mitigate the punishment according to the law, and Zheng Zihao and eight others could be punished lightly according to the law.
This announcement also mentioned that some Hong Kong and Shenzhen deputies to the National People’s Congress, members of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, journalists and family members of the defendants to observe the public sentencing of the case.
Two minors were transferred to Hong Kong without prosecution
Radio Hong Kong reported that the Yantian People’s Procuratorate announced on the 30th that the two minors, Huang Linfu and Liao Ziwen, who voluntarily pleaded guilty and punished, were reviewed in accordance with the law, and the decision not to prosecute for border smuggling was made without public hearings, and the Shenzhen side will transfer the two to the Hong Kong police this morning.
