Germany today reported for the first time more than 1,000 new deaths related to the 2019 coronavirus disease (Chinese communist virus, COVID-19), a new high.
Reuters reports that the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), which is responsible for disease prevention and control, has reported an increase of 2,000 deaths in Germany. The data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), which is responsible for disease prevention and control, showed that Germany had an additional 22,459 confirmed cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 1,687,185; the number of notified deaths increased by 1,129, and the number of people who died of the disease came to 32,107.
RKI said that the information is not entirely comparable because some health authorities reported fewer test results during the holiday period, and some included delayed notification of data.
The number of new infections per day has not decreased significantly since 16 states across the federation agreed in early December to close schools, most stores, bars and restaurants until Jan. 10.
Politicians, including Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Chief of Staff Helge Braun, have indicated that the lockdown could be extended.
The RKI clarified that so far, about 42,000 people have been vaccinated, most of them elderly people living in care centers.
Vaccination against the new coronavirus has officially begun in Germany since the 27th.
The federal government is planning to distribute more than 1.3 million doses of the vaccine to local health authorities by the end of this year, and about 700,000 doses per week since January 1 next year.
