The Chinese CDC reported that in April this year, Wuhan, Hubei Province, had a positive infection rate of 4.43% for the new coronavirus, estimating that nearly half a million people out of a population of 11 million in Wuhan were infected, nearly ten times higher than the official figures released at the time. However, the authorities remained tight-lipped about the actual number of deaths.
On the first anniversary of the outbreak, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released its findings on Monday (28th) that serum antibody testing of 34,000 people in Wuhan’s community for New Coronavirus in April this year found that the population in the area was 4.43% positive for New Coronavirus. That is, New Coronavirus-specific antibodies were detected in these people, indicating that they may have been infected with New Coronavirus. According to official statistics, Wuhan has a resident population of more than 11 million people, and if the 4.43% rate is estimated, the number of people infected with the New Coronavirus in Wuhan alone should be close to half a million. However, the Wuhan health department announced in April this year that there were only 50,000 confirmed cases of New Coronavirus pneumonia, a difference of nearly ten times.
The latest data prove that Wuhan hid the number of infections in April
In response, a Wuhan scholar, Mr. Mao, who requested anonymity, said in an interview with Radio Free Asia on Wednesday (30) that he was overwhelmed with anger after noticing the latest official figures: “I was concerned yesterday about the 4.43 percent positive infection rate in Wuhan. The April figure is a rigid state of stability, and the authorities are hiding the truth from the general public by concealing some scientific or pathological aspects of the survey data. This is also in line with the Chinese Communist Party’s usual style. I feel very angry.”
In March and April of this year, the public questioned the number of urns prepared by several funeral homes in Wuhan for the “new crown” victims, which was much higher than the number of deaths announced by the authorities, and on April 17, Wuhan officials issued a notice revising the number of deaths from the new crown pneumonia to 3,869, an increase of nearly 1,300 from the previous figure. However, this revised figure continues to be questioned by the public as being suspicious.
The graves of the dead are heavily guarded and off-limits to outsiders
Wuhan resident Zhang Hai’s father died in a hospital in Wuhan after contracting the new coronavirus. Zhang Hai was unhappy that the authorities concealed the “human-to-human” nature of the virus, which led him to drive his father to Wuhan for surgery, where he was infected. Zhang Hai told the station that the authorities would not release the true number of deaths: “The number of deaths is a priority. Because the cemetery in Bian Tan Mountain in Wuhan, when I went to see my mother the other day, I used to be able to drive in when I went to the cemetery, but I couldn’t drive in when I went there, and they realized that if they could drive in, there would be journalists mixed in, but now they can’t, if you are a foreigner, he can see it at a glance. It means they are particularly nervous about the death toll.”
In early April, a female lawyer in Zhengzhou was warned by the bar association and had to personally make a written review after she posted online a graphic of families of Wuhan’s pneumonia victims lining up to receive ashes. At the time, some netizens estimated that Wuhan’s seven funeral parlors distributed a total of 3,500 urns per day. 42,000 urns were distributed over 12 days from March 23 to April 5, the Qingming Festival. In addition, Wuhan’s seven local funeral parlors 84 cremation ovens, assuming 65 ovens can work normally, each body cremation calculated by 1 hour, 24 hours a day can be cremated 1560 bodies. Deduct about 200 normal deaths per day. The number of deaths per month is 46,800.
Recalling the early days of the pneumonia outbreak in Wuhan, Zhang Hai said that many people died on the streets or at home: “There was no chance to go to the hospital, no chance to be tested for nucleic acid, so they died at home, and there were many such cases.”
Last year today (Dec. 30, 2019) the station was the first to report on the outbreak in Wuhan, where at least 27 people were infected. Authorities sealed off the South China Seafood Wholesale Market and disinfection ensued. On the same day, the Wuhan CDC accepted our inquiries and said that the infected people suffered from pneumonia after preliminary tests and that the specific virus needed further investigation and promised to announce the results to the public. At that time, the Wuhan Health Commission informed that there was “unknown virus pneumonia” patients were confirmed to be viral pneumonia, so far no human-to-human transmission has been found, and the viral pneumonia can be treated symptomatically. But this is not the case.
As of Wednesday (Dec. 30), the new coronavirus pneumonia has infected more than 80 million people worldwide and killed more than 1.77 million. This follows more than 440,000 new diagnoses and more than 9,000 deaths worldwide in the previous day.
Last year today (December 30, 2019) the Wuhan South China Seafood Market was closed and razed to the ground a week later.
