In response to the incubation period of some people affected by Wuhan pneumonia virus may exceed 14 days, as well as the discovery of a strong new variant of the virus in South Africa, the Hong Kong government announced that from today (25) days, all people who have stayed outside China within 21 days before arriving in Hong Kong, are required to mandatory quarantine in designated hotels for 21 days. In addition, after the United Kingdom, all those who have stayed in South Africa for more than two hours within 21 days before boarding will be banned from boarding to Hong Kong.

In Beijing, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that in response to the discovery of a 70% more infectious variant of the virus in the UK, it has decided to suspend flights between China and the UK to protect the health of Chinese and foreigners, and will adjust the relevant control measures in due course. According to the announcement, China Southern Airlines suspended flights to the UK from yesterday until January 7; China Eastern Airlines suspended flights until January 8; Sichuan Airlines also suspended passengers departing from the UK, but there is no date to lift the ban; in addition, although Air China has not announced, but the website shows that there are no tickets available for sale in January, only a few flights returning from the UK are shown to be in preparation, but it is unknown whether they will be cancelled.

According to the Flight Manager website, there were 27 flights from the UK to China in the first 20 days of the month, down 89% from last year, and capacity was 8,490 seats, down 87% from last year.

In Hong Kong, the decision to extend the quarantine period to 21 days is urgent and was announced late last night and implemented in the early hours of this morning, catching passengers who were already on the flight by surprise. Some passengers said that after landing the plane must rush to the hotel to arrange for an extension of the date of stay, was confirmed before dealing with the entry quarantine matters, resulting in some passengers drumming, suggesting that the authorities set up a buffer period for passengers.
