On the eve of the first vaccinations in the EU-27 on Sunday, many parts of Europe did not dare to relax in the face of the risk of a new wave of infection due to the possible spread of the variant of the virus in the United Kingdom and the convergence of families at Christmas, and many countries again offered tough measures, including grounding or restrictions on movement.
Austria, Scotland and Northern Ireland again announced measures to restrict the movement of people on December 26, the day after Christmas. On the eve of the start of the first vaccinations, more than 25 million people have been diagnosed with coronavirus (Covid-19) in continental Europe. It is the most severe outbreak in the world.
Austrian authorities today imposed a third foot ban after opening skiing over Christmas. The government said the “curfew” will be in place “all day” and will last until January 24. But from January 18, the restrictions may be relaxed.
Ireland and Italy have reintroduced the curfew before the Christmas holiday. Scotland and Northern Ireland will enter a phase of severe restrictions starting today, the 26th, including closing “non-essential” stores and limiting or prohibiting social contact.
Some parts of the United Kingdom have also re-imposed a foot ban since December 20 in an effort to curb the out-of-control variant of the virus and accelerate the spread of the outbreak.
