Christmas Eve around the world under the shadow of the new crown epidemic

Countries around the world are celebrating Christmas Eve in the shadow of the spread of the New Guinea virus pandemic, which has made the family Christmas season different from previous years. French President Emmanuel Macron, who has just been released from quarantine, called on the public to pay attention to the prevention and control of the epidemic during the Christmas holidays and to observe the rules of wearing masks and other epidemic prevention. British and French land and sea traffic remained open over Christmas to soothe the large number of blocked trucks.

The French presidency said Thursday that French President Emmanuel Macron, who was previously diagnosed with the new coronavirus, is free of symptoms and can be released from quarantine according to regulations. The presidency said Macron kept telecommuting during the quarantine and continued to deal with state affairs.

The French Ministry of health informed Thursday night that France had 21,634 new confirmed cases and 292 new deaths on Thursday. Macron called on the public, during the Christmas holidays, to pay attention to the prevention and control of the epidemic, to comply with the rules of opening windows and ventilation, wearing masks and washing hands regularly to prevent the epidemic.

In order to clear thousands of trucks blocked at the British-French border waiting to enter the continent, the British government said on Thursday that land and sea traffic between Britain and France will remain open during this Christmas. Bilateral traffic jams have been caused by the emergence of a new virus variant of the New Coronavirus in Britain. AFP reported that thousands of European trucks were stranded at the port of Dover, the main British port across the English Channel, waiting to be tested as France required those entering from Britain to pass a new coronavirus test. They had spent their fourth night on board on Wednesday.

According to the British Department for Transport, about 6,000 trucks were waiting to cross the border as of Wednesday evening, with 3,750 of them parked at the old Manston airport, the site of the virus test in Kent, southeast England, and the rest stuck on nearby roads.

In addition, the same variant of the new coronavirus as in the UK was found in Germany. Health authorities in the southwestern German state of Baden-Württemberg said a woman arrived in Frankfurt by plane from London, England, to visit family on the 20th of this month and tested positive for the virus upon arrival. Her sample was sent to a specialized laboratory for further analysis and tested positive for a variant of the virus found in the United Kingdom. The woman was picked up by her family in a car at the airport and has been kept in isolation at her residence with mild symptoms. Three of her close contacts have been quarantined.

Germany on Tuesday extended its ban on entry into the United Kingdom until next month, after several countries cut off traffic to and from the country following the discovery of a variant of the new coronavirus.

And British epidemiologists say the variant of the virus is feared to have spread to most European countries. Ferguson, a professor and infectious disease epidemiologist at Imperial College London, said the new, fast-spreading variant of the virus found in Britain is “almost certain” to have spread to “the vast majority” of European countries.

Italy added more than 18,000 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus Thursday, up from the previous day, with the cumulative number of cases topping 2 million and 505 new deaths. Italy became the eighth country in the world to have more than 2 million confirmed cases.
