In response to the entry into force of the Hong Kong National Security Act, the Australian government announced in July that it would provide an immigration pathway for Hong Kong people to extend their temporary visas for five years for those holding graduate or temporary skilled visas, after which they can apply for permanent residence visas.
The Home Office replied on Thursday (24) that the government is working on the details, which will be announced early next year.
The report said eligible HKSAR passport holders will not be required to meet additional conditions normally required for other technical visas. Some eligible Hong Kong people have been extended visa validity, the future applicants will also be approved directly when the five-year temporary visa, after which they can apply for a permanent residence visa, foreign students in remote areas can also apply after three years of residence.
Acting Immigration Minister Taji said earlier that applicants will be sent away if they have serious national security and character problems, and the Interior Ministry also said that applicants must meet “health, character and security requirements”, but refused to confirm whether they apply for a permanent residence visa all the conditions.
