Lai Chi-ying was released on bail and the public criticized the judge for being “too lax”

By Dagongwenwenhua: The founder of Next Media, Lai Chi-ying, who is suspected of violating fraud and Hong Kong’s national security law, has been granted bail pending trial, causing great public anger. Some members of the public took the initiative to petition outside the Court of Final Appeal building at 3 p.m. today (24), criticizing the judge for being “too lax” in handling the application for bail, ignoring the risk of absconding, questioning the “alternative release” of the person concerned.

The public criticized the judge for giving Lai Chi-ying too lenient bail conditions.

Mr. Yeung said that after the implementation of Hong Kong’s national security law, at least 19 people who had advocated “Hong Kong independence” or “self-determination” had absconded on bail, so the court should re-examine the guidelines for granting bail conditions and be particularly careful in handling cases of black violence suspects, otherwise it would only give the suspects the chance to escape from legal responsibility again and again. He urged the judges to tighten the bail conditions, improve the unified criteria for granting bail, and carry out judicial reform as soon as possible in order to demonstrate the justice of the rule of law.

The release on bail of Lai Chi-ying, who is at high risk of absconding, has caused public outrage, with citizens spontaneously going to petition outside the Court of Final Appeal building.
