Focus topic: Just as the U.S. is beginning to distribute and vaccinate, a new strain of the virus has emerged in the U.K. and is already spreading among some populations, leading to a blockade of the U.K. by various countries. Does the vaccine provide protection against the new strain? What is the American attitude toward vaccines? Should officials be vaccinated first or second?
Today on a topic that was supposed to be hot but apparently diluted by the election issues is the outbreak and vaccines. The distribution and vaccination of the CCP virus vaccine in the United States has begun, and Vice President Pence is leading the charge today to encourage the American people to get vaccinated. I have no opinion on whether or not to get vaccinated and believe that each person should have a choice for themselves.
Just as the U.S. began distributing the vaccine, bad news came out of the U.K. It was discovered that this wave of the outbreak is primarily a variant of a virus that is 70% more contagious than the existing virus, and 60% of new patients were tested for this virus, as soon as the U.K. took the strictest city closures, and Europe has blocked traffic with the U.K. Another variant of the virus has emerged in South America and is different from the one in the UK.
There is apparently a double standard in the media as to whether or not to vaccinate, on the one hand, it seems to be encouraging people to do so, with one of the hottest videos from the other day showing a nurse who had just been vaccinated telling everyone on camera that she felt great, and then collapsing. Many people who watched the video have said that they would not get this vaccine.
On the other hand, some people are upset that Vice President Pence is leading the vaccination, as if he robbed someone else of the vaccine. People are demonstrating and encouraging a skeptical public. The American public has little trust in vaccines to begin with, and being the first to get the vaccine is not considered a benefit grab.
This just proves the same media wrong at the end of February this year, when Vice President Pence was appointed as anti-vaccine commander-in-chief and the media attacked Pence for having a history of rejecting science when he was governor of Indiana. What was that all about? The state medical department came up with a needle exchange program to reduce the spread of AIDS in the drug-addicted population, and Pence delayed its implementation for several months because of different values, leading to an AIDS outbreak in one county with 200 people infected. I can’t think what this has to do with Pence.
The needle exchange program isn’t science either, it’s politics. It fits well with the socialist plan to destroy America by encouraging drug use, theft, etc., and then using taxpayer money to help these people, abating police funding to bail them out, creating a growing population dependent on drugs and government, just like the recently passed legalization of marijuana, for the purpose of controlling society as a whole.
According to the Secretary of health, over 80% of Americans receive this vaccine.
Another story that has at least the Hong Kong internet abuzz is the unconfirmed news that Yvonne Lee, the mainstay of Hong Kong’s pro-police effort, died suddenly a few days after receiving a vaccine produced in mainland China and tested positive for the virus after her death.
These two are not the same thing, that American nurse got better after a short rest and is now fine. Generally, you need to rest for 10 minutes to observe after vaccination for fear of acute reactions, some of which are allergic reactions, which this case should not be.
I. What is worth discussing is Li Yuyan
If she really died after vaccination, and it was a few days later, it is not an acute reaction, including an allergic reaction, but another possibility.
Here are some of her symptoms. She said she thought she had a cold, and since the symptoms of a CCP virus infection and a cold are supposed to be similar, it could be a direct infection with the CCP virus. Similar is the case of Chinese expatriate workers who were infected en masse. Uganda, Angola, and Serbia have all seen dozens of hundreds of people infected with the virus, and they were vaccinated with a Chinese-made vaccine before being sent out.
Two possibilities: 1) the vaccine has no preventive effect; 2) the vaccination is the source of the infection. The quality and design of Chinese-made vaccines are involved here.
After checking, the most widely advertised and tried vaccines made in China are inactivated viruses as vaccines. Originally the inactivated virus was not dangerous, at least not the risk of infection, but it’s hard to tell when things happen in China. After all, every link may have tofu.
There used to be two kinds of Polio virus vaccines, one inactivated virus from Shak and one live attenuated vaccine from Sabin. Live attenuated vaccines recover from toxicity after inoculation to people with defective immune mechanisms and not only cause disease, but also cause small localized outbreaks.
China is now exporting vaccines on a large scale, while importing large quantities of U.S. vaccines. Exporting vaccines is still similar to exporting masks and testing reagents, because few countries in the world have developed and produced coronavirus vaccines, and the Chinese Communist Party has a role in controlling other countries because of the early and large quantities, but the quality cannot be guaranteed.
Second, the United States vaccine
The two American vaccines are the same type, Pfizer and Moderna are RNA vaccines, this is a new concept of vaccine, is to encode the mRNA of the stinger protein in some way into the human body, in the human body assembly called stinger protein, triggering an immune response, because it is not a complete virus, only a part of the stinger protein, theoretically much safer.
Pfizer’s 90% efficiency algorithm followed 170 cases, 162 of which occurred in the placebo group and 8 in the vaccine group, and of the 10 severe cases, 9 occurred in the placebo group and only one in the vaccine group.
Moderna, on the other hand, observed 95 cases of symptomatic COVID in volunteers, with only 5 cases occurring in the vaccine group. It should be said that this is still relatively encouraging. However, there are only reports of symptom reduction, and no data on whether it prevents infection. It is also not known how long the protective effect lasts. There is already clinical data showing that antibody levels in previously infected people drop to levels that are difficult to measure within six months.
The U.S. vaccine is certainly safe in terms of the manufacturing process, and if there are side effects and other problems, it is the vaccine itself and not the manufacturing process.
The next question is whether the U.S. vaccine is effective against the British virus
Both US vaccine companies have the stinger protein, and if there is a significant mutation in the stinger protein of the UK virus it could affect the effect of the vaccine. Today I saw a material that said that the UK virus 20201201 has 1273 amino acids in the stinger protein and 8 of them are mutated.
The CDC release is for N501Y. If it doesn’t significantly change structure and charge, it may not have much impact, but it’s actually not promising, and if the mutations continue to occur, it’s like the flu.
The role played by the Trump administration in developing the vaccine should be less controversial now, and I think it has little to do with the effectiveness of the final vaccine. If it doesn’t work well, or if it doesn’t work well with mutated strains, then it shows that we still have limitations in science now. The way infectious diseases are transmitted to humans is still very confusing: the experiments with naval criminals of the Great Influenza in 1918, in an era when transportation was not developed, the disease spread super fast.
Vaccines are one of the major achievements in mankind’s struggle with disease; another might be antibiotics. However, vaccines are not a panacea.
Smallpox is the most successful example, while HIV is the most unsuccessful one. These two examples show that it takes a man to make a plan.
