Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) called the latest bailout package for the Communist Party’s viral crisis “a slap in the face to every struggling American” because it gives billions of dollars to special interests and foreign countries in addition to a $600 stimulus check to Americans.
On Monday, the U.S. House and Senate passed more than 5,500 pages of spending bills designed to ease the burden on Americans affected by the economic blockade due to the coronavirus, according to The Jewish Voice. Hundreds of billions of dollars of these taxpayer funds go to aid foreign countries, including Sudan; cover the cost of border security for Middle Eastern countries; tax breaks for horse racing horse owners; allow the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Labor discretionary programs to bring in more foreign workers to compete (even though 17.8 million Americans are still unemployed); scale back Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) funding and detention centers, open the immigration wave gates.
Meanwhile, every single American will receive a stimulus check of $600, while couples will receive a stimulus check of $1,200. The $600 check is half the amount of the $1,200 check the federal government issued earlier this year after forcing small and medium-sized businesses to close while allowing multinational corporations to stay open.
In a video message, Congresswoman Gabbard explained why she voted against the bill and slammed House Democratic leaders for not providing the text of the bill until hours before the vote.
Gabbard said, “I just got back from the House vote. I voted against it, and I want to tell you why. First of all, the bill is over 5,500 pages long. We just received this text this afternoon at about 2:30. We were told that we would have to vote on it in a few hours. No one in Congress has had the opportunity or time to read a bill of this length to understand exactly what is in it.”
Gabbard continued, “I’ve spent a long time here just to understand how these things are shoehorned into the bill, literally in the dark of night, without any notice and without being told anything about the content, and then we are asked to rush through the vote. It’s irresponsible, and there’s absolutely no way that we, as representatives of the people, can represent the interests of the American people in this situation.”
She said, “The core parts of this bill were supposed to provide direct COVID relief to the American people who are struggling and need it most. But this bill spends hundreds of billions of dollars on special interests, on the military-industrial complex, on foreign countries. I’m telling you, in Hawaii, in most cases, $600 in relief won’t even cover 25% of the rent. For every American struggling because of the COVID plague, this is an insult and a slap in the face. This bill represents a priority for Washington. They are supposed to fight for you and make sure that you, the American people, come first. But this bill does not do that.”
In the House, 50 Republicans and two Democrats voted against the bill. In the Senate, six lawmakers opposed the bill.
