Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said the Jan. 6, 2021, joint session of the two chambers will be the last chance for U.S. congressmen to work hard. She believes it is a litmus test for the Trump team.
According to the Washington Times, Greene said the outside world is watching to see if lawmakers can come out for President Trump on Jan. 6 and discard the swing state Electoral College votes, which she believes is a chance for U.S. lawmakers “because for the last four years, it’s President Trump that Republican supporters have loyally backed …… If Republicans want to break a record and show who they support, the Jan. 6 vote will be an opportunity for them to do so.”
Green and several House members called on President Trump at the White House on Jan. 21, where they discussed challenging the swing state’s Electoral College votes on Jan. 6.
Under U.S. election law procedures, at least one member of the House of Representatives and one member of the Senate are required to file a written document challenging the election results on Jan. 6, which triggers a vote in both chambers on the election dispute, and after the dispute begins, more than half of the members of both chambers need to agree to overturn the results.
To date, several House members have announced their readiness to challenge the Electoral College vote in Congress. While several senators have said they support the process, no one has yet issued a public statement on it.
For now, the Trump team is still pursuing a judicial complaint about fraud in the election.
