A New Hampshire woman was arrested Dec. 23 after U.S. federal prosecutors filed a lawsuit against her for allegedly threatening the chairman of the Wayne County, Michigan, ballot review board and her family after the presidential election, including sending photos of a horrific corpse and threatening messages.
Katelyn Jones, 23, a resident of Epping, N.H., was arrested the morning of Dec. 23, according to a press release on the website of the Eastern District of Michigan Attorney’s Office.
John Kosanke, director of public safety for Grosse Pointe Woods in Wayne County, said they contacted the FBI for assistance because of the broader scope of the investigation in this case.
The FBI’s sworn testimony submitted to the court mentioned that Jones was accused of threatening Monica Palmer, chair of the Wayne County Board of Voter Review, after Palmer had voted against the county’s election results.
According to testimony, Jones intentionally sent Palmer a message on Nov. 18 threatening Palmer herself and her family for exercising her duties as chair of the Wayne County Board of Revision. The cell phone used to send the text messages was allegedly linked to Jones.
The text messages cited in the testimony show Jones calling Palmer a racist and terrorist; Jones sent Palmer a photo showing a bloody, badly mutilated naked female body lying on the ground, and then immediately sent another photo of Palmer’s minor daughter. Palmer was subjected to the same threats on Instagram.
Testimony showed that one of the threatening messages said, “Your daughter is beautiful and I would feel bad if something happened to her. I would feel bad if something happened to your daughter at school.
Federal prosecutor Matthew Schneider released a statement saying, “The crimes alleged in this case disgust us all. People are being fearfully threatened just for doing what they believe is right, and this must not be allowed to happen in Michigan or across the United States.
Jones faces a 20-year sentence in federal prison along with a fine of up to $250,000.
William Hartmann, another Republican member of the Wayne County Ballot Review Committee, was also threatened to the point that he was forced to leave his home for a period of time.
I’m scared,” Hartmann told the Epoch Times on Dec. 22. The police have actually had people in different places for three or four days now, just in case.
“The media went to my house and filmed the front yard and the address. Then my Web site was leaked and I received over 1,500 malicious e-mails,” Hartman said. Hartman said.
Both Palmer and Hartman initially voted against the election results and questioned the authenticity of the Wayne County election results at the Wayne County Board of Counting’s certified election results web meeting on Nov. 17. There was a 2-2 deadlock on the floor.
They were then attacked on the floor of the meeting, called racist and threatened personally and by their families, before they voted yes instead.
On Nov. 18, Palmer and Hartman withdrew their certified votes from the previous day, both stating that they still opposed certifying the election results.
