Republican lawmakers call on Trump to veto epidemic relief bill

Some federal Republican lawmakers are calling on Trump (R-Texas) to veto the CCP virus (coronavirus) bailout bill that Congress passed this Monday night (Dec. 21).

“It’s the worst bill ever,” Republican Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) told Fox News, “because it’s bad, both procedurally and substantively.”

On Tuesday night (Dec. 22), President Trump released a video saying Congress should pass a bill that would reduce foreign aid and reduce funding for government buildings. And that $2,000 in direct payments, rather than the $600 in the bill, should be provided to Americans to help them survive the epidemic.

“Congress has found plenty of money for foreign countries, lobbyists and special interests,” Trump said, “while giving the bare minimum to the American people who need it.”

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said he supports Trump’s veto of the bill. He said, “Cash payments are a ridiculous, terrible, stupid, bad idea because you’re just printing money for people …… which will ultimately destroy the value of our currency.”

Paul said he is concerned that the $2,000 direct payment and check measures will be tied to more spending.

Paul suggested lawmakers should open up the economy, reduce the waste evident in the budget and stop piling up debt for future generations.

Sen. Ron Johnson, a federal Republican from Wisconsin, also opposes the epidemic relief bill. He said, “We don’t have an unlimited checking account, and we must be more prudent with federal funds (that are money we borrow from future generations) and limit the risks we are setting up for future generations that they will take in the future.”
