What should France do in the face of the new coronavirus variant in the UK? Professor Djillali Annane, head of the emergency department at the Raymond Poincaré Hospital in Garches, France, says that the best way to keep the mutated neo-coronavirus from replacing the native neo-coronavirus is to shut down the city immediately and cut off the transmission route. Professor Annane said he advocates a strict one-month closure starting Dec. 26 to limit the number of new infections to less than 1,000 per day. This would essentially solve the problem and control the situation once and for all.
Arnaud Robinet, the mayor of Reims, France, echoed Prof. Annane’s sentiments and even called for the city to be closed from December 25, Christmas Day. He said that if we look at the epidemic in eastern France, and if we look at several neighboring countries that are closed right now, he suggests that the French be allowed to spend Christmas with their families, and then either a regional or a national closure starting on December 25 or 26. The epidemic really isn’t over yet, as the number of people infected with the new coronavirus rose by another 10 percent during the week of December 7 to 13. The number of New Coronavirus infections in France has continued to rise in recent days.
The first anti-NeoCoronavirus vaccine has no effect on the New Coronavirus variant in the UK. The Echo said the co-director of Germany’s BioNTech, Sachin, said tests would be done on the British variant of the new coronavirus and that the results would take two weeks to come back. They have already tested the Pfizer vaccine against 20 other new coronavirus variants in the lab and the results showed the vaccine was effective. Sahin estimates that the Pfizer vaccine may be effective against the UK variants of NIV because although NIV produces many variants, 99% of their S protein genetic code is the same. He urged everyone to remain calm and wait for the test results.
Several European countries are clearly opposed to the immediate resumption of normal relations with the UK. Germany and Italy announced Tuesday that their embargo on the U.K. will remain in place until Jan. 6. Ireland wants to extend its airline moratorium with Britain until Dec. 31. So even if France wants to reopen the tunnel with the United Kingdom, there are no conditions, because there are other EU member states do not agree. But France has agreed to conditionally open the entry of passengers from the UK from Wednesday at 00:00. By conditional, I mean that travelers are limited to French, European, British, or third-country residents of France, EU countries, or European countries. They must have a negative nucleic acid test for the new coronavirus done within 72 hours.
The French government has abandoned plans to make vaccination mandatory for all. French newspaper Le Figaro said that on Monday French Prime Minister Castel presented a document to a joint meeting of ministers on the mechanism for dealing with health crises in the long term. According to the document, the French prime minister has the right to stipulate that people who travel, people who want to use transportation, people who go to certain locations to perform certain jobs, who do not have test results of infection by the new coronavirus, receive preventive medical treatment, including vaccination or treatment. A spokesman for the French government said the document was prepared to allow France to come out of the health crisis emergency on April 1, 2021, and was a legal mechanism developed to deal with the health crisis.
A few hours later, the document was expedited to Parliament. The result was unanimous opposition from both the left and the right of the French political spectrum. The French Senate Legal Committee said that it was not possible to accept such a regulation in the form of a government decree. The decree means that the government informs the parliament and the issue is not discussed in the parliament. Some members of parliament said that only parliament is qualified to decide on measures to restrict personal freedom in case of health crisis.
On Monday evening, the French Minister of Health decided to withdraw the document. He went on the French TV 1 news program at 20 o’clock and said that France was not prepared to engage in compulsory vaccination.
