President Donald Trump‘s advisers “wanted him to lose” the election “and were lying to him,” according to Patrick Byrne, former CEO of online retailer Overstock, who said he was a participant in a Dec. 18 White House meeting.
“Trump was lied to by his own advisers who told the staff to ‘get the president to concede’ while they stalled Trump,” Bourne wrote on Twitter Dec. 20.
Bourne singled out White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, General Counsel Pat Cipollone and a pair of lawyers named Eric and Derek.
“I can assure you. President Trump is being served up by his advisers,” said Byrne: “They want him to lose and are lying to him. He’s surrounded by stupid mediocre people.”
In response to media reports that the president discussed his reaction to the declaration of martial law at a Dec. 18 meeting, Byrne said the claims were “100 percent false.” Attorney Sidney Powell, who was also present at the meeting, similarly disputed the claims. “Whoever said this, including the people around him, are liars,” Powell wrote on Twitter Dec. 20.
Bourne wrote, “This is 100 percent winnable. No need for martial law. Sidney and Flynn have proposed a pathway that I estimate has a 50-75 percent chance of winning. His staff just tried to convince him to do nothing but accept it. As a CEO, it broke my heart to see what he was going through. He’s being betrayed from within.”
Bourne said he was at the White House for four and a half hours. Media reports also cited anonymous sources as saying that during the meeting, the president discussed the possibility of appointing Powell as special counsel to investigate election fraud.
“The legal team led by Meadows and GC Cippolone reflexively shoots down every sober discussion or idea that comes up. Their frame of mind is automatic: ‘We better not try this, it probably won’t work and it will damage your reputation in the media.'” Bourne wrote, “No kidding, they would say something like that.”
While Bourne said the president “wants to keep fighting,” opponents of Trump’s plan are worried about how the media will view such a move.
“They’re trying to find reasons to tell him he can’t do anything. He needs to fire them all or he loses.” He went on to tweet, “He really (believes) he won, he really won. I didn’t vote for him, but I don’t want to see our country hijacked in a psychological war.”
He then tweeted, “I heard that White House General Counsel Pat Cipollone was fired tonight. From my time with him Friday night, it was the smartest thing Trump could have done. This scheming little man is worried about his next job and the social gatherings he may be invited to.”
