Two Chinese visa centers in the UK suspend operations as 50 countries ban UK visitors

The Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom announced on Tuesday (Dec. 22) that the London Visa Application Center is temporarily closed due to a mutation of the New Coronavirus that has exacerbated the outbreak in the United Kingdom.

Many countries and regions have announced the suspension of flights with the United Kingdom after a mutation of the New Coronavirus in the south of the country caused a sudden increase in the outbreak. London is currently in the most restrictive city in the UK to fight the epidemic.

The Chinese Embassy said, “In order to cooperate with the local epidemic prevention and control, the Chinese Visa Application Service Center in London will suspend its business to the public from December 22, 2020, with the resumption date to be announced.”

Meanwhile, the Chinese Visa Application Center in Manchester, in northern England, also announced that it will suspend its external operations from December 29. Manchester is second only to London in terms of the level of restrictions against the disease.

The Chinese Visa Center in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, has shortened its hours of operation since November. The highest level of restrictions for the whole of Scotland began on December 26.

France decided to close its border with the UK for 48 hours in light of the change in the outbreak. Fifty countries have now announced bans on British tourists.

China decided last month that British nationals with any valid visa and residence permit will not be allowed to enter China, except for Chinese nationals in the UK, due to the worsening epidemic.
