Beijing’s Xiangtang Village demolition continues, even pandering painter Fan Zeng can’t save his family’s money

Rumor has it that the authorities have hired a large number of demolition crews and black security guards to carry out the ongoing violent demolition of Beijing’s Xiangtang Village because it obstructs Xi Jinping‘s “dragon line”. Fan Zeng, a well-known Chinese calligrapher and painter, has written and published many poems and calligraphic works in praise of Xi Jinping, but his courtyard has not escaped demolition, and has been mocked by netizens for spending his life singing the praises of power only to be served by an excavator.

The demolition of Beijing’s Xiangtang Village continues. On Monday (21), the Chinese famous calligrapher Fan Zeng’s Chinese compound and more than ten houses in the fourth district of Beijing’s Xiangtang Village were quickly razed to the ground under the push of a large excavator.

Fan was a member of the China Artists Association, a lifelong researcher at the China Academy of Art, a doctoral supervisor at several universities, and a UNESCO Special Advisor on Multiculturalism. The demolition of Fan Zeng’s home failed to trigger an echo of solidarity from the outside world, but was instead ridiculed by netizens as a special “demolition reward” for his years of fawning over power. Some netizens have assigned a poem to mock: a lifetime of painting red flags, in exchange for digging machines digging walls.

Yang Weidong, an independent artist who went to Beijing to cover the Xiangtang Village in his early years and lives in exile in Germany, told the station that Fan Zeng’s demolition deserves deeper consideration, as those so-called celebrities who eulogize power, like the lower class, are simply incapable of protecting their legal rights.

Yang Weidong said: Fan Zeng’s stream, no matter how much he shoots Xi Jinping, is just a vase in the eyes of others. In the eyes of the erratic Communist Party, you are nothing if you are not in the same interest chain as others. The actual fact is that you can get a lot more than just a few of these. It is because the existence of that house affects their interests. The whole area of Xiangtang Village is very good in terms of feng shui and environment, if it is stepping on the “Dragon Vein”, Xi Jinping does not care who you are, and will not recognize you.

It is reported that the demolition order of Xiangtang Village was issued by Cai Qi, the secretary of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee. It is directly carried out by Ran Hao, secretary of the Standing Committee of CuiCun Town, Changping District, who graduated from China University of Political Science and Law. Yang Weidong accused Cai Qi of causing a humanitarian disaster by repeatedly carrying out demolitions and evictions of “low-end people” in and around Beijing during the cold winter months in order to achieve political success and show his loyalty to Xi Jinping.

Many of the owners of the incense halls are second-generation Reds, such as Tao Siliang, daughter of former Communist Party leader Tao Casting, Su Huining, daughter of founding Communist General Li Yu, and Li Lisan, daughter of former Communist Party leader Li Lisan. In the face of demolition, some chose to keep quiet, while others openly protested. Li Lisan’s daughter’s house was demolished this summer, and Guo Lingmei, daughter of the Communist Party’s red poet Guo Xiaochuan, was detained on December 5 for allegedly protesting against the demolition. During the demolition of Fan Zeng’s house, Fan Zeng himself has not been seen to speak out, and we have not been able to contact him.

Fan Zeng’s neighbor, Yang Yusheng, a professor at China University of Political Science and Law, posted a video of the demolition of Fan Zeng’s compound on social media. He himself was informed by the university leadership that the authorities had asked him to “not give interviews to foreign media” because he had publicly protested against the demolition. He told the station that he is still safe and will defend his legal rights to the death.

Yang Yusheng said, “According to the notice from the Beijing Security Bureau and the Cultural Protection Bureau, I am not to be interviewed by the foreign media, so I am not at liberty to answer your questions. I am now eating well, living well, I want to maintain a good mood, live and learn “Xi Jinping rule of law thought”, to fight against the Cui Cun town people’s government, 150 kilometers from Zhongnanhai, this illegal, violent, brutal demolition.

In another video posted by Yang Yusheng, he warned the demolition crew who wanted to break into his house that his house was legal private property and that it was illegal for the authorities to demolish it, and that he would defend himself if the demolition crew violently entered.

The derivation of small property rights houses in Beijing’s Changping Xiangtang Cultural Village was a shortcut by the town government to develop the local economy more than 20 years ago, soliciting cultural celebrities and others to build their own houses at cheap land prices. Sui Muqing, a Guangzhou lawyer, said that China’s small property rights houses are one of the forms of private property belonging to them, and therefore forced demolition in the name of small property rights houses is suspected to be illegal.

Sui said: “In terms of a legal principle, this kind of small property right is also a kind of property right, if a country really respects the protection of private property, it is absolutely impossible to demolish the small property right house, it must negotiate with people about compensation, the authorities are using this thing as a flexibility, if it is beneficial to me to demolish it or give you recognition.

Earlier this month, the authorities issued a deadline for the demolition of more than 3,800 owners of Xiangtang Cultural Village. The owners told us that a retired old secretary of the village was arrested by the authorities as a “scapegoat”. The local government earlier even cut off water and electricity to evict the owners. Many owners have posted videos showing them using coal stoves to keep warm in the winter, and some have nowhere else to go but to set up simple tents to shelter in the broken walls.

Cai Xia, a former professor at the Central Party School in exile in the U.S., took to social media earlier to reveal that the demolition was the result of Xi Jinping’s belief in feng shui masters who said that the houses there were blocking the “dragon vein”.
