No sooner had Xi Jinping boasted at the Central Economic Work Conference that he had “delivered an answer sheet that would go down in history as satisfying to the people and noteworthy to the world” than he was slapped in the face by the blackout in Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang and Guangdong provinces. Official mouthpieces such as CCTV, which are constantly promoting the wise decisions of the Central Economic Work Conference, were also slapped in the face by the blackout. The blackout occurred on the eve of China’s white paper “China’s Energy Development in a New Era”, which was the third slap in the face of the central government. It is funny that the official media blinked at the public opinion questioning the blackout as a bad consequence of war-wolf diplomacy, and cited the reason of “feeling the rapid growth of industrial production”.
Claiming to be the world’s largest energy producer
The central economic work conference ended on the 18th, from the recent official media propaganda, scholars interpretation of the focus, one is to praise the economic achievements under the leadership of Xi Jinping, elevated to the level of “in the history books” not seen in previous years economic work conference. The second is to promote “the people’s supremacy is the fundamental prerequisite for making the right choice” to highlight the humanistic sentiment of the great leader’s resistance to the epidemic and economic achievements. Third, the economic and trade situation judgment “to make good use of the precious time window”, that next year’s pressure to stabilize growth is not as big as in previous years, that is, this year’s low base, next year to grow five percent, six percent relatively easy, and once Biden in the White House, the Sino-US trade truce, internal and external pressure is reduced. Fourth, the structure of China’s economy has changed, the proportion of total imports and exports to GDP has fallen to 33%, China has the basis and ability to promote the internal cycle.
However, the recent blackout that affected nearly ten provinces and regions in the south has slapped official media and imperial scholars in the face. The blackout shows that China’s energy supply constraints are far from being solved, and the blackout is not “people first” governance in the cold winter season, and there is no doubt that next year’s precious time window will be constrained by energy issues. The white paper “China’s Energy Development in a New Era” published yesterday, is still boasting that China has become the world’s largest energy producer last year, with the installed capacity of nuclear power and hydropower, wind power, photovoltaic power generation, biomass power generation capacity under construction ranking first in the world, such a world first for the people suffering from power outages and restrictions, what sense of happiness, access, security?
Some commentators pointed out that the power restriction and coal ban, how can the people of the country spend the winter? This regime only cares about its own power gains and losses, war-wolf diplomacy, so stupid that it cannot even guarantee basic national livelihoods. “Is the specter of anti-rightist and great famine far from China”? Although the prophecy is horrible or exaggerated, it brings up a fact that the Chinese Communist Party’s official media tries to avoid: China’s relationship with Australia is tense, and China keeps imposing sanctions on Australia, from lobster, beef, red wine to coal, all of which are subject to tariffs or even banned imports, while Australian coal accounts for 57% of China’s coal imports, the result of the sanctions is that Chinese power elites can afford to eat expensive lobster and drink expensive red wine, but also suffer from massive power outages and electricity restrictions. The Chinese Communist Party’s war-wolf diplomacy is a real attempt to lift a stone and smash its own feet.
The War Wolf Diplomacy of the National System is Pale and Powerless
Official media and imperial scholars claim that China’s economic growth is no longer dependent on international markets and that it is capable of going through an internal cycle, but not only are high-technology such as chips subject to foreign control, but even energy such as coal and iron ore is subject to Australia and other countries. Is it solved by the official white paper promoting China as the top energy producer? And the sudden announcement by Russian power company InterRAO that it will significantly reduce or completely stop supplying electricity to China due to costs is like adding insult to injury.
If ZTE was sanctioned, China experienced the pain of not having a core, and turned to the national system to try to tackle the problem; some food-producing countries restricted their exports to make China afraid, and turned to launch a food conservation campaign and reintroduce the slogan of keeping the red line of 1.8 billion mu of arable land. Then, without a few more blackouts and restrictions, I am afraid the CCP will not admit how the so-called number one energy producer is constrained by others.
What the CCP will not admit is that in the face of the chip, food and energy crises, the so-called advantages of the national system and all the arrogance of war-wolf diplomacy are all pale and feeble. Next year will be the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CCP. Apart from the illusion that Biden will be inaugurated as the president of the United States and that the trade war between China and the United States will end, allowing it to open another window of time for its rise, the CCP can only imagine that the “performance” of the GDP in the first half of next year will be significantly higher than that of the same period this year, so as to whitewash its own party celebration.
