Billionaire and investigative journalist Patrick Byrne, founder of U.S. e-commerce giant Overstock, speaks at a pro-Trump rally at Freedom Plaza in Washington, DC, Dec. 12, 2020.
Patrick Byrne, founder of U.S. e-commerce giant Overstock and an investigator of election fraud, said he himself attended a lengthy White House meeting on Dec. 18 in which he argued that President Trump’s advisers “want him to lose” the election “and are lying to him.
“Trump is being lied to by his own advisers who are stalling Trump while telling his staff to ‘get the president to concede’.” Byrne wrote on Twitter on Dec. 20.
Bourne specifically named White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, White House counsel Pat Cipollone, and two lawyers he calls only by their first names, Eric and Derek. the White House did not respond to requests for comment by press time.
“I can assure you that these advisers to President Trump are doing a terrible job,” said Byrne, “They want him to lose and are deceiving him. He’s surrounded by mediocre people who are deceiving him.”
Trump has not acknowledged the results of the 2020 presidential election, which he believes is being stolen because of massive fraud. The Trump legal team and third-party sources, including attorney Sidney Powell, are currently pursuing legal actions in six states, including several cases that have been appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court. The Trump legal team also urged state legislatures that they should exercise their constitutional authority to select electors.
Bern’s message appears to be a response to a media report. The media recently reported that President Trump discussed declaring martial law at a meeting on Dec. 18. Bourne said those claims were “100 percent false. Attorney Powell, who was also present at the meeting, also disputed the claims.
“There was no discussion of a military coup by Donald Trump or anyone representing him,” Powell wrote on Twitter on Dec. 20, adding that “anyone who says that, including those around him, is a liar. “
Bourne wrote: “This is 100% winnable, no need for martial law. Sidney and Flynn (the general) have proposed a course that I estimate has a 50 to 75 percent chance of winning. Instead his (Trump’s) handlers just tried to convince him to do nothing and accept the election results.”
“As a CEO, it breaks my heart to watch what he’s going through. He’s being betrayed from within.” Bourne said.
Bourne said he was in the White House for 4 1/2 hours. In the report, the media, also citing anonymous sources, said that during the meeting, the president discussed the possibility of appointing Powell as a special prosecutor to investigate election fraud. Powell did not respond to a request for comment by press time.
Bourne said the president “wants to keep fighting. However, those on staff who oppose Trump’s plan are worried about how the media will view the actions.
“Meadows, and the legal staff under Cipollone, will reflexively fight every sober discussion or idea that’s put forward.” Bourne said, “Their frame of mind, automatically, would think this: ‘We better not try this, it probably won’t work, it will damage your reputation in the media.'”
“No kidding, they said things like that,” he said, “and they did everything they could to come up with reasons to tell him he couldn’t do anything. He needs to fire them all or he loses.”
Bourne said, “He really (believed) he won, and he really did. I didn’t vote for him, but I also don’t want to see our country hijacked in a psychological war (PSYOP).”
