The number of cluster infections in Thailand has increased by 689 cases, and people are lining up to be screened.

An outbreak of Wuhan pneumonia (novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19) has broken out in Mahachai, Samut Sakhon, Thailand. The Thai government has now cordoned off the area and implemented universal screening in the area, with large numbers of people waiting in long lines outside the testing stations for screening.

The Associated Press reported that the first case at Mahachai Seafood Market was reported to be a 67-year-old female vendor. After the outbreak of the epidemic, the Thai government used police and barbed wire to block off Mahachai and the road to the outside, and began to carry out virus screening, the local people therefore lined up outside the testing station in several lengths of about 100 meters of people.

The Thai health authorities pointed out that 689 people have been confirmed to have been infected with Wuhan pneumonia in Longchai Chu Province, with most of the infected being Burmese workers. Health officials say the crowded environment of the market may lead to an accelerated spread of the disease.

The local government has announced a curfew and restrictions on going out until January 3 next year in response to the outbreak, with shopping malls, cinemas, stadiums and even schools ordered to close. Longchai Chu Province is only 34 kilometers from the capital Bangkok.
