China ranks 129th out of 162 countries in the world, according to the think tank’s new Human Freedom Index ranking.
The report was released by the Cato Institute in the United States and the Fraser Institute, a Canadian think tank. The Human Freedom Index shows the state of human freedom in the world using a broad measure that includes personal freedom and economic freedom, among others.
China scored 6.07 on the Human Freedom Index, with a score of 5.92 for personal freedom and 6.21 for economic freedom.
The United States ranked 17th with a Human Freedom Index score of 8.44, with a personal freedom score of 8.66 and an economic freedom score of 8.22.
In the latest report, the top ten in order are New Zealand, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Denmark, Australia, Canada, Ireland, Estonia, Germany and Sweden (tied for ninth place).
Syria, Sudan and Venezuela are the last three in the Personal Freedom Index ranking.
