President Trump (Trump) said Thursday (Dec. 17) that he is not involved in the federal investigation of Hunter Biden, the son of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.
I have nothing to do with the possible prosecution of Hunter Biden or the Biden family,” Trump tweeted. This is just more fake news. In fact, I think it looks sad!”
One report, citing anonymous sources, said the president was asking aides if a special prosecutor could be appointed to investigate the Hunter Biden affair.
Some senior lawmakers, including Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, have asked Attorney General William Barr to appoint a special counsel. Trump does not have the authority to make the appointment directly, but can push for it.
Hunter Biden revealed last week that he learned he was under investigation by the Delaware U.S. Attorney’s Office. He said the investigation was into his “tax problems. Between 2009 and 2017, Hunter Biden was involved in numerous overseas business transactions during his father’s tenure as vice president.
Biden told reporters Wednesday (Dec. 16) that he was “confident” his son had done nothing wrong.
Sen. Rand Paul, a Kentucky Republican, said Thursday on Fox’s “Fox & Friends” that “if he’s confident, he should keep the federal prosecutors who are investigating Hunter Biden. prosecutors who are investigating Hunter Biden.” He was referring to the fact that most new presidents fire federal prosecutors and appoint new ones when they enter the White House.
He said, “If a federal prosecutor is fired in the first few weeks of an administration, if the investigation is given to a Biden appointee, you know that things are clear and there will be no justice.”
Despite Biden’s claim that he has won the 2020 election and will be the next president in the White House, the winner of the presidential election is not being declared at this time for several reasons, including the fact that there are still ongoing legal proceedings for election fraud.
The designation of a special prosecutor would isolate the investigation against Hunter Biden, making it difficult to interfere with or stop his investigation.
A Biden adviser said over the weekend that Democrats would not interfere with the investigation of Biden’s son.
Sen. Chris Coons, a Delaware Democrat, said in response, “He’s not going to interfere with decisions made by senior leadership at the Justice Department.”
In recent days, Trump has made several references to the Hunter Biden scandal. On Sunday, he accused Joe Biden of “lying on the (presidential) debate stage.”
Trump accused, “He said, ‘Nothing happened, nothing happened.’ Bill Barr should come forward.”
