The communist Party’s highest-level economic meeting, the Central Economic Work Conference, is about to begin. Senior officials from several provinces and regions have arrived in Beijing ahead of schedule to meet with officials from various Ministries and commissions of the Communist Party.
Some analysts said that forced by the political and economic situation, local officials went to Beijing ahead of schedule, on the one hand, to compete for funds and projects, and on the other hand, to “worship the dock” and form a clandestinely formed group.
The Central Economic Work Conference is held every year in December. It summarizes the economic work of the year, studies and judges the economic situation of the year, and sets the tone for the economic policies of the coming year. According to the convention, the session is generally held within four days and is attended by senior officials from relevant central ministries and commissions and party and government officials from all provincial administrative regions and sub-provincial cities.
Senior officials from various parts of the communist party have been arriving in Beijing, according to a public report by WeChat, a newspaper affiliated to the communist party. At least 11 people showed up in Beijing on Sunday.

Zheng Zhongyuan, a commentator, said such “central level meetings” not only give local communist party officials a chance to travel to Beijing to “visit the docks”, but also provide an opportunity for private cliques.
In 2020, affected by the epidemic and the deterioration of China-U.S. relations, the Communist Party of China (CPC) regime is facing a more severe crisis of internal and external difficulties, including economic difficulties, diplomatic fiasco, and encirclement and suppression by the international community. As a result, the top leaders in various regions are facing a difficult time. This Central Economic Work Conference has drawn special attention.
Local media interviewed several experts and identified four possible priorities for the meeting, including how to exit the policy of aiding enterprises, increase consumption and expand domestic demand, how to coordinate fiscal and monetary policies, and what breakthroughs will be made in key areas of reform.
Hong Kong media said that the economic work conference may also focus on preventing financial risks, economic “double cycle”, “anti-monopoly” and so on.
Cheng Xiaonong, a political and economic commentator in the United States, said in an interview with The voice of Hope that the Chinese Communist Party’s economy is facing serious difficulties. The “three horses” driving the economy, namely, exports, consumption and investment, have collapsed one by one. The new financial crisis has become the largest “grey rhino” in China’s economy.
‘The real economy of any country depends on three horses: one is investment, one is consumption, and the other is exports,’ Mr. Cheng said. ‘But the situation is getting worse because of the deterioration of economic relations between China and the U.S.,’ he said.
