The top 10 metropolitan areas in the United States that have seen the largest reductions in the cost of living since the outbreak

Since the COVID-19 outbreak in March, economic fluctuations have more or less affected cities around the world. In the US, for example, while prices in the outer suburbs of some major cities, such as New York, San Francisco and Chicago, have risen, raising the cost of living, prices elsewhere have become cheaper. Apartmentguide.com calculates the top 10 metropolitan areas with the biggest cost reductions since March:

  1. Palm Coast, Florida:

The region, known for its salt and fresh water canals, beaches and coastal inner waterways, saw its overall cost of living fall by 3.4 per cent, with groceries in particular down 13.7 per cent and housing costs down 2.2 per cent.

  1. Johnson City, Tennessee:

Johnson City is home to many rivers and mountains, and east Tennessee State University. Its overall cost of living fell by 3.3 per cent, groceries by 12.6 per cent and housing by 3.1 per cent.

Huntsville, Ala. :

U.S. News & World Report named Huntsville as one of the 10 best places to live in America in 2018, with the total cost of living dropping 3.1 percent, housing 4.8 percent, and transportation costs dropping 7.4 percent.

Casper, Wyo. :

Forbes named Casper the “Best small family city” in 2010. In a region whose history revolves around oil and cowboys, the overall cost of living fell 3 percent, including an 8.5 percent drop in groceries and a 5 percent drop in housing costs.

  1. Joliet-will County, Illinois:

The county, about 48 kilometers from Chicago, is home to a music venue and two casinos. Its overall cost of living fell by 3%, particularly groceries by 7.7% and housing by 4.5%.

  1. Minot, North Dakota:

During the non-COVID-19 era, Minot was known as the North Dakota State Fair. Since the outbreak, the cost of living in Minot has fallen by 3%, groceries by 4.3% and housing by 5.7%.

Sussex County, Delaware:

It is 90 minutes from Baltimore and Washington, DC, and about two hours from Philadelphia, and its overall cost of living has fallen by 3%. Grocery costs fell 9.4 percent and transportation costs fell 1.2 percent, but housing actually rose 3.6 percent.

  1. Stockton, California:

Stockton has one of the youngest mayors in the country, Michael Tubbs, and in 2019 a quarter of the population was living in poverty. Overall living costs are down 3% this year, groceries are down 11%, and housing costs are down 3.4%.
