“Pompeo quarantined” has gone viral with nearly 50 million people watching

The U.S. State Department said in a December 16 statement that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has been quarantined and tested negative for the virus after being in close contact with a patient diagnosed with pulmonary embolism. Bizarrely, news of the epidemic on the Chinese mainland has gone viral, reaching the second most searched spot on Weibo, but has completely disappeared from all over the mainland.

At around 11:20 p.m. on December 16, Beijing time, the mainland media sent out an express message. The headline was “us secretary of state pompeo quarantined > after contact with COVID-19 infected person”. The paper headtitled “us secretary of state pompeo quarantined after contact with COVID-19 patient”. The World Wide Web even more with the headline “News! Foreign media: pompeo is under quarantine. > is reporting on pompeo.

Surprisingly, after reports that Pompeo had been quarantined, Weibo also put “Pompeo has begun quarantine” in second place, attracting 49.777,000 followers as of 6 am on Monday. But on the other hand, the diagnosis continues to appear all over the mainland, and no relevant information can be found in the hot search list.

Reuters quoted a U.S. State Department judge as saying on December 16 that the department’s medical team was closely monitoring Pompeo’s health, but declined to identify the person he had been in contact with for privacy reasons. The spokesman also did not say when or where Pompeo had contact with the confirmed person.

The Washington Post reported that Pompeo canceled a live speech scheduled for Saturday at an indoor holiday party at the State Department. CNBC, a business channel, reported that U.S. President Donald Trump held a cabinet meeting at 11:30 a.m. Monday, and it was not immediately clear whether Pompeo attended.

Wuhan pneumonia is known to have been diagnosed in several U.S. political circles, including President Donald Trump, first lady Melania Trump, the president’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, and White House National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien. But they have since recovered and stayed in their jobs, working together with the goal of making America Great again.

As of December 16, 2020, the outbreak of WPV in the Chinese mainland has spread around the world and caused serious losses in all countries, among which the United States has recorded 16.725,300 confirmed cases and more than 300,000 deaths.

On the Chinese mainland, since December 2020, local confirmed cases and asymptomatic infected persons have again appeared in Jiaozhou, Shandong; Chengdu, Sichuan; Manzhouli, Inner Mongolia; Dongning, Heilongjiang; Suifenhe, Xinjiang; Turfan, Xinjiang; and Dalian, Liaoning. Cities and communities have been sealed off in many places, and local authorities have even declared a “state of war”. But the communist Party has been concealing the truth of the epidemic, and to this day, the official statements and figures are widely questioned.
