The Fuqing nuclear power plant, known as Hualong 1, the country’s first third-generation nuclear power plant, had an operating accident during a trial run in late October, but did not release radioactivity.
The plant, located on the outskirts of Fuzhou, Fujian province, experienced a shock in the pressure of the main steam pipeline during a trial run on Oct. 27, and the trigger machine stopped automatically, which was classified as a “level 0 operation event,” Hong Kong 01 reported. But the accident did not cause adverse effects on people or the environment.
China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment recently issued a statement from the National Nuclear Safety Administration, which sent experts to conduct an independent investigation in early November.
The Paper reported at the end of November that unit 5 of the Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant had been connected to the grid for the first time, and its first kilowatt hour had been delivered. The units are in good condition, creating the best performance for the first reactor of the third-generation nuclear power plant.
