Wang Meibin, vice mayor of Baotou, Inner Mongolia, has died after falling from a building at her home

Wang Meibin, deputy mayor of Baotou, Inner Mongolia, died after falling from a building at her home in Ordos city on December 12, but police have ruled out a criminal case. The situation is under further investigation.

Wang Meibin, a native of Ordos who was born in 1969, has served as deputy mayor and party member of Baotou since September 2019, according to China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency.

There is public speculation that Wang Meibin’s fall may be related to the anti-corruption situation in Inner Mongolia this year.

Just two days before Wang’s fall, the city’s discipline inspection commission announced that Yunweidong, deputy head of the ordos municipal People’s Congress, was under investigation for suspected violations.

Since the beginning of this year, Inner Mongolia has carried out a “reverse investigation for 20 years” campaign to check the illegal phenomena in the development and utilization of coal resources in Inner Mongolia since 2000.

Five senior officials, including Bai Dun, former head of Inner Mongolia’s land and Resources department, have been investigated or dismissed for disciplinary violations, the local government of Inner Mongolia announced on Dec 4.
