Hong Kong government requires civil servants to prove their love for Hong Kong and support for the Basic Law, violators will be fired

According to several Hong Kong media reports, 180,000 civil servants in Hong Kong will have to swear allegiance to the Hong Kong government and uphold the Basic Law from January next year at the earliest, the whole process is expected to be completed within a month, and those who refuse to take the oath will face dismissal.

According to international media on Dec. 11, eight civil service groups in Hong Kong met with the Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr. Nip Tak-kuen, at 10. It is reported that the director general of the Federation of Civil Service Unions, Mr. Leung Chi-ting, said after the meeting that the government will arrange for all civil servants to take an oath or sign a declaration at the end of this month at the earliest, and those who refuse will be dismissed or ordered to retire early.

Leung also quoted Nip as saying that civil service applicants who do not sign the declaration will not be employed by the government.
