Wanchai roadside construction workers cut through gas pipes, causing an explosion that burned six people

A gas explosion occurred in Wan Chai, six workers were injured. Tonight (11) at 10 o’clock, several workers in Wan Chai, 255 Jaffe Road, off a Water Supplies Department site for water pipe maintenance works, during the suspected drilling through the underground gas pipe, a large amount of gas leakage, workers saw the situation immediately notify the gas company to send staff to the scene to help. When the gas company staff arrived at the scene, an explosion suddenly occurred, and affected three motorcycles parked next to the store and caused a fire, the residents reported to the police.

The fire was put out after 45 minutes by a fire hose and a smoke cap team. Six workers (25-59 years old) were burned on their faces and hands, two of them needed face masks, and were taken by ambulance to two hospitals for treatment. Police sealed off the scene and are investigating the cause of the fire.
