2 DH staff infected with the disease, including staff of Chinese medicine center and school dental clinic

The Department of Health said today that two staff members working at the Hong Kong Science Park Government Chinese Medicine Testing Centre and the Argyle Street School Dental Clinic have confirmed the initial diagnosis of the disease. The facilities are suspended today for comprehensive cleaning and disinfection.

According to the Department of Health, the staff member working at the Government Chinese Medicine Testing Centre is a non-medical staff member who mainly conducts research on Chinese medicine in the office and does not need to come into contact with the public. The staff member was a close contact of a confirmed case and last worked on Dec. 7. His body temperature was normal before performing his duties, and he wore a mask and followed epidemic precautions at all times while working. Due to public health concerns, the site where the staff worked, namely the Hong Kong Science Park office in Sha Tin, was immediately closed for thorough cleaning and disinfection.

The initial confirmation of the dental service was made by a dental surgery assistant. She was working on the 3rd floor of the Jockey Club School Dental Clinic in Argyle Street and was mainly responsible for the support services in the treatment lobby. One of her relatives was the confirmed case. She was notified by the Centre for Health Protection on the evening of December 10 that her deep throat saliva sample test results were preliminarily confirmed and she did not show any symptoms. She was last on duty on December 10 and had no contact with patients at work. The staff member was wearing a surgical mask while working and maintained a social distance from her contacts. The clinic is closed today for a full cleaning and disinfection.
