27 Republican members of Congress write to Trump requesting appointment of special attorney general to investigate election

More than two dozen Republican members of the federal House of Representatives signed a letter to President Trump on September 9, calling on him to direct Attorney General William Barr to appoint a special attorney general to investigate whether fraud was involved in the 2020 election. The letter states that Barr has taken no action on the various rumors of election fraud since Election Day.

Fox News reports that the letter states that the Department of Justice has been asked on many different occasions to investigate election fraud, but has taken no action, and that the attorney general’s public statements have revealed a reluctance to investigate allegations of election fraud by the Trump campaign and other election officials.

The 27 members of Congress who have signed the petition include Republican Congressman Lance Gooden of Texas, Congressman Paul Gosar of Arizona, Congressman Louie Gohmert of Texas, Congressman Thomas Massie of Kentucky, Congressman John Kerry of North Carolina, and Congressman John Kerry of New York. Rep. Ted Budd (D-CA) and others. The contents of the joint letter are similar to those of the letter sent to Donald Trump on March 3.

A spokesman for Gooden’s office said that Gooden’s letter to Trump received enthusiastic support from fellow Republicans, hence the joint letter.
