Heavyweight! U.S. House Inaugural Committee Refuses to Recognize Biden as President-Elect

Today the inaugural members of the U.S. House of Representatives rejected a resolution to confirm Biden as President-elect.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer introduced a motion to confirm Biden as President-elect and initiate inaugural preparations, but the Republican members of the committee steadfastly rejected the motion.

All three Republicans on the committee, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Senator Mitch McConnell, and Senator Roy Blunt, refused to support the motion. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senator Amy Klobuchar, and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer joined in announcing the end of the current JCCIC session. Later, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, the sponsor of the motion, confirmed the news on Twitter and criticized Republicans for actions that threaten American democracy.

The Joint Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies is a special joint committee of the U.S. Congress, established every four years to administer the presidential inauguration.
