As the border conflict between India and China intensifies, India is stepping up its boycott efforts, announcing today that it has blocked 118 more Chinese applications (apps), including the ultra-popular handheld game “PUBG” (PUBG).
India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said that the blocked apps include “Survival of the Jedi M” and other services provided by Chinese online giant Tencent, on the grounds that they promote activities that “jeopardize India’s sovereignty and integrity, its defense, national security and public order.
In recent weeks, bloody clashes have been reported along the Himalayan border between China and India.
In June, violent clashes between Indian and Chinese troops in the border region of Ladakh resulted in the deaths of 20 Indian soldiers. In two more incidents over the weekend, an Indian soldier of Tibetan origin from the Special Frontier Force (SF) was “killed in clashes” on August 29.
There were also casualties on the Chinese side, but no specific figures were released.
India banned 59 Chinese apps, including the short-form video platform TikTok, after border clashes broke out in June.
The video game “Survival of the Jedi,” which is popular with millions of young Indian gamers, was developed by a South Korean company, but the worldwide popular mobile version of the game “Survival of the Jedi M” was developed by Tencent.
