Pokémon Go will be discontinued on older mobile systems in October!

The PokémonGo update, which will be released in October, may mean that you will no longer be able to use the game if you have an older iPhone or Android device. For Apple owners in particular, the game will no longer run on iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 even if you have iOS 12 installed on your iOS 5.

The developers did not specify why they are cutting out older mobile platforms and phones, but future updates may include elements to prevent the game from running on older devices. As 9to5Mac points out, Pokémon Go is an augmented reality game with higher technical requirements than non-AR games.

Whatever Niantic’s reasoning, it’s clear that if you’re using one of these platforms and phones, you won’t be able to access the game, items, or PokeCoins when the update launches in mid-October, and if you find a way to keep the game running without upgrading your device or mobile operating system, the company will not provide support for technical issues.

Niantic also announced three weeks of Mega Evolution-themed events in September, starting with Mega Pidgeot from the 1st to the 7th. This will be followed by a raid to unlock Mega Houndoom from September 11-17, and finally a Mega-Evolution-themed timed research story event from September 22-28.
