A new wave of local epidemics has broken out in Chengdu, and the province has entered a “state of war”.

In Chengdu, Sichuan province, which has not announced any locally confirmed cases of neonatal epidemic since March this year, a new epidemic has suddenly broken out and at least five people have been diagnosed so far. The Sichuan provincial government has said it must “enter a state of war” in the face of the new outbreak.

Three new local cases of Wuhan pneumonia were reported in Chengdu on Tuesday. One of them is the 20-year-old granddaughter of a previously diagnosed couple who has been to a nail salon and three bars in the past 14 days. Together with Monday’s two cases, at least five people have been diagnosed in the new outbreak.

There have been no locally confirmed cases of Wuhan pneumonia in Chengdu since March of this year. Chengdu resident Xie Junbiao told the station that local officials and citizens have been significantly more vigilant over the past two days.

The company’s president said the company’s plans are to expand the company’s business operations to include a new business unit, which will be located at the company’s main office in the city. The company is also vaguely concerned because winter is well, I thought there would be a major outbreak in winter. In fact, I still believe that the city government and the provincial government will put this thing out with the greatest effort.”

Sichuan provincial party secretary Peng Qinghua, who chaired the leadership group meeting Tuesday morning, stressed the need to quickly enter a state of war and take the strictest and most effective control measures to keep the impact of the epidemic to a minimum.

A former executive of the China Red Cross Foundation’s Critical Illness Relief Program, Ren Ruihong, believes the regime is taking the battle against the epidemic in Chengdu very seriously.

Ren Ruihong: “The temporary martial law is a military administration, and all major supplies, important matters, and personnel management, including personnel deployment, are under the control of the army. The political situation in the country is delicate. (There are concerns about) whether Xi Jinping can control this or not. The local government departments are not necessarily under his control, but the troops are.”

It is never politically acceptable to have a second Wuhan.

Chengdu’s Pidu district was listed as a moderate risk area Monday night, and residents were not allowed to leave the area as a rule. By Tuesday, screenshots had been circulating on the Internet, the content of which was related to the Chengdu Municipal Health Commission, which said it did not rule out the closure of the city. But the Health Commission has since dispelled the rumors, emphasizing that it has not announced any similar news. Ren Ruihong believes that regardless of whether there are more local cases in Chengdu, it will not turn into a catastrophic epidemic like the one in Wuhan.

Ren Ruihong: “Chengdu is unique because it is very close to Wuhan, very similar to Wuhan, also a second-tier city and provincial capital, with convenient transportation, and also in South China. The vaccine has reached such an extent that the panic over the virus is not as great as it was when it was first discovered. At present the mainland is not allowed to have a second Wuhan, which is absolutely politically unacceptable.”

An expert from Shanghai Huashan Hospital said that with the widespread introduction of the new coronavirus vaccine and the vaccination of high-risk groups in China, the new coronavirus may gradually evolve into a seasonal respiratory infection similar to influenza, but because the risk is higher than influenza, major hospitals must have normalized epidemic prevention and response, and it is expected that it will be difficult to achieve widespread introduction of the new coronavirus vaccine worldwide, and the epidemic will not end in the next one to two years.
