Taiwan Army may deploy ballistic missiles with ship attack capability, with a range of more than 500 km.

The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has just demonstrated its Dongfeng 21/26 medium- and long-range ballistic missile with ship attack capability in the South China Sea to strategically intimidate the U.S. military, drawing global attention. According to the latest tactical requirements of the U.S. Army, a new ballistic missile modified from the Army’s Tactical Missile System (ATACMS, MGM-140) will be available in the future to attack ships, and Taiwan is currently budgeting for the purchase of an equivalent weapon.

According to the U.S. Army, it is about to launch an experimental medium-range ballistic missile program to deal with moving targets and ship targets at sea, which is the result of a major shift and tactical overhaul of the Army, Navy, and Air Force as a whole after the U.S. Army began adopting a “Multi-Domain Battle” (MDB) strategy in 2016.
