Actress Liu Yifei supports the Hong Kong police Huang Zhi Feng calls for a boycott of Mulan

Disney’s annual blockbuster “Mulan” was released in the United States this week. Hong Kong pro-democracy activists, including Huang Zhifeng, have called for a boycott of “Mulan” because of the film’s lead actress Liu Yifei’s public support of Hong Kong police officers last year.

According to a September 5 Deutsche Welle news report, Huang Zhifeng tweeted on Friday criticism: “Because Disney kowtows to Beijing and Liu Yifei openly and proudly supports police violence in Hong Kong, I call on everyone who believes in human rights to boycott Mulan.”

On Saturday morning, Huang Zhifeng tweeted again: “Hong Kong people do not approve of Liu Yifei and Donnie Yen who support the police. Therefore, we call on freedom lovers everywhere to boycott Mulan.” The post received more than 1,000 retweets in a matter of hours, including from former Hong Kong Public Chi Chuang Kai-shek Party Chairman C.C. Law, now in exile in the UK.

China’s Globes criticized Huang Zhifeng on Weibo for “touching the porcelain” of “Mulan” starring Liu Yifei.

According to Chinese media, Disney has confirmed the premiere of “Mulan” in China on September 11.
