Today marks the 19th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In New York, the National September 11 Memorial and Museum holds its annual commemoration. Vice President Pence and his wife, and Democratic presidential candidate Biden and his wife, all attended the commemoration there.

Unlike the past 18 years, this commemoration in the midst of the New Canopy epidemic was not only scaled down, but all participants were asked to wear masks and maintain a social distance.

The commemoration kicked off with an honor guard of the New York City Fire Department and police escorting the flag into Memorial Park.

Due to the New Crown epidemic, this year’s commemoration eliminated the reading of the names of the victims by their families and replaced it with a pre-recorded reading of the names of the victims by their families.

Nineteen years ago, on September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked American Airlines and United Airlines flights that attacked the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, including the crash of United Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, killing nearly 3,000 people. The Twin Towers were attacked by terrorist hijacked aircraft, causing fires and complete collapse in less than two hours.

Families of the victims who participated in the memorial came early in the morning to the National September 11 Memorial and Museum and Memorial Park, which was erected on the site of the World Trade Center.

Flowers and American flags were placed along the edge of a memorial pool engraved with the names of the victims, and attendees listened to recordings of the names of the victims being read over a loudspeaker.

As in previous years, the commemoration was marked by a moment of silence and the ringing of bells at six points in time. Two were the separate attacks on the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, two were the separate collapses of the Twin Towers, and two were the timing of the attacks on the Pentagon and United Flight 93.

The first moment of silence was observed at 8:46 a.m., the time of the attack on the north tower of the Twin Towers by American Airlines Flight 11, and bells were rung in churches across the city.

Vice President Pence and Second Lady Karen Pence visited the 9/11 site and attended the memorial service. Democratic presidential candidate Biden and his wife also attended the commemoration in New York.

In addition, Governor Cuomo, Mayor Whitehouse, Federal Senators Schumer and Gillibrand (Tina Lu), as well as former New York City Mayor Bloomberg and former New York State Governor Rodrigo Berdych, attended the memorial.

In order to allow families to read the names of the deceased in person, as they have done in the past, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation has established a separate memorial site adjacent to the Memorial Park where families can go to read their loved ones’ names.

For nearly 20 years, the “Light Tribute,” the last of a full day of commemorative activities, symbolized the destruction of the Twin Towers by terrorists on the night of September 11 with two powerful lights shooting into the sky, was suspended this year due to the epidemic, but the Tunnel to Towers Foundation has since expressed its willingness for the organization to continue the event.
