Beijing Police Confirm Detention of Geng and his wife on Illegal Business Charges

The Haidian Public Security Bureau in Beijing confirmed that Geng Xiaonan, a Beijing-based public intellectual and independent filmmaker, has been detained on suspicion of illegal business operation. The detention of Geng Xiaonan, a former professor at Tsinghua University Law School who has publicly expressed support for Xu Zhangrun, has drawn widespread attention.

Authorities said on an official microblogging site that recently the cultural law enforcement authorities identified a Beijing-based cultural communications company that was printing and selling illegal publications in its business activities, and a large number of illegal publications were found in its warehouse.
