The French version of “Diary of the Sealing of Wuhan,” written by Chinese writer Fang Fang during the city’s closure due to the Xinguan epidemic, was recently published in France, according to the French Broadcasting Corporation.
In the introduction to the French edition, it is written, “In a time blinded by fear, when diaries are often censored, and when the extreme left attacks fiercely, Fang Fang’s voice is still deafening. Her passion and sincerity awaken us to our first obligation in the face of disaster and political silence: spiritual freedom and humanitarianism.”
In an interview with the French Broadcasting Corporation, Fangfang confessed that she was incredulous that the book had been framed as “passing the knife” to anti-Chinese forces in the West, and that she herself had been framed as a “traitor”.
But she also pointed out that it remains to be seen what changes the epidemic will bring to humanity or to the world as a whole, and that humans have always been inert and forgetful, so it is unlikely that one epidemic will change anything immediately.
She concluded by revealing that she had plans to write, but because of Fang Fang’s Diary, no publisher in China dares to publish her book. She herself fears punishment from the Chinese authorities and has recently stopped writing.
