Trump congratulates Kan on his appointment as Prime Minister and Japan’s security chief on his visit to the U.S.

President Trump tweeted his congratulations to Kan on his election as the 99th prime minister of Japan. Trump said, “I’m looking forward to meeting with you in the near future. This is the first time that Trump has tweeted his congratulations to Kan on his election as Prime Minister.

Trump noted: “You have a very good history growing up. He realized that Kan was born into an ordinary strawberry farming family, worked at Tsukiji Market, a wholesale fish market in Tokyo, and studied at Hosei University.

Trump tweeted, “Prime Minister Kan will be able to make a great contribution to the world and to Japan.

Some sources say that Prime Minister Kan and President Trump will hold a phone conversation around this week.

It is also reported that Shigeru Kitamura, who continues to serve as director of the National Security Agency (NSA) under Kan’s Cabinet after Abe, will visit the U.S. starting on September 22, and will meet with senior U.S. government officials to explain to the U.S. the new Kan administration’s diplomatic approach based on U.S.-Japan relations.

Shigeru Kitamura’s visit to the U.S. will run from September 22 to 26, and he will meet with U.S. Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs Robert O’Brien. The White House said in late July that O’Brien had tested positive for the new coronavirus. At the time, O’Brien had mild symptoms, was under self-imposed quarantine, and was working from another secure location.

After he recovered on August 19, he held a telephone conversation with Shigeru Kitamura, in which they reportedly exchanged views on the situation in the Asia-Pacific region, the continued entry of Chinese coast guard vessels into the area of the Diaoyu Islands that Japan considers territorial waters, Hong Kong, and North Korea.

This will be the first foreign visit by a senior official since Kan became Prime Minister.
