Guangxi’s “King of Politics and Law” Zeng Xin’s whereabouts unknown

The former secretary of Guangxi’s Political and Legal Committee, Zeng Xin, is 55 years old. He has been absent from many important events since mid-October, and the news of his surrender in early November was even confirmed by officials.

Zeng Xin had been serving in the 12th Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security in his early years, reaching the rank of director. On the eve of the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Zeng Xin was parachuted into Hubei as director of the Hubei Provincial Public Security Bureau; in 2014, he also became vice governor of Hubei, ranking as a vice-ministerial official.

In March 2020, when Xi Jinping visited Wuhan to inspect the epidemic, Zeng Xin was involved in security coordination.

Prior to that, Sun Lijun, former Vice Minister of Public Security, had been under the direct command of Sun as a member of the central steering group to oversee the prevention and control of the epidemic in Wuhan.

In June 2020, two months after Sun Lijun’s fall, Zeng Xin was suddenly transferred from Hubei to Guangxi as secretary of the political and legal committee.

From the perspective of Zeng Xin’s career experience, he had interactions with the three major “political and legal tigers” that fell – Sun Lijun, former Shanghai Public Security Director Gong Daogan, and former Chongqing Public Security Bureau Chief Deng Cullin.

Now, Zeng Xin’s whereabouts are unknown, and the authorities have neither announced that he has been investigated nor that he has been appointed to another post, prompting public speculation.

In his self-publishing program, commentator Chen Baokong analyzed that Zeng Xin’s transfer to Guangxi in June last year was a ploy by Xi Jinping to transfer the tiger away from the mountain, in order to investigate whether Zeng Xin was related to the Sun Lijun case. Now that Zeng Xin’s whereabouts are unknown, it is likely that he is involved in the Sun Lijun coup group.
