The famous blogger “Programming Thoughts” was reported and arrested by the state security department.

According to a July 5 news release from the Rights Defense Network, “Programming Thoughts,” a well-known blogger who created a blogging platform on an overseas website, has recently been arrested by state security authorities after being reported by Chinese web monitors.

According to the news release, “Programming Thoughts”, whose real name is Ma Yongkang, lives in Qingdao, Shandong Province, and worked as an engineer for a Chinese network technology company before his arrest. He became a well-known figure on overseas Chinese networks because he created a blog platform on an off-wall website and published a lot of information about China’s cyber security, current affairs and politics, history and diplomacy, as well as various electronic versions of books that were banned. “He also won the annual award of the Deutsche Welle “International Blog Competition” in 2013.

According to the website, “Programming Musings” has long been stalked by Chinese overseas web monitors. Based on the social networking accounts of the same name and browsing records registered by “Programming Thoughts” before 2009, some 50 cents confirmed that the account was owned by “Programming Thoughts” and reported the relevant investigation information to the state security authorities in May this year. In May of this year, the relevant investigation information was reported to the national security organs. “Programming Thoughts” was then arrested as a result.
