According to local media sources quoted by the Central News Agency today, the Hong Kong police arrested the vice chairman of the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China (HKAS), Zou Xingtong, for allegedly announcing or promoting an unauthorized assembly.

According to TVB sources, the police arrested two people this morning, including Zou Xingtong. The source said Zou Xingtong was arrested at her apartment in the morning for allegedly violating public security regulations after the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China’s application for appeal against the June 4 rally was rejected, through social media platforms, to promote and call on the public to participate in the same activity.

The police earlier banned the Alliance from holding a candlelight vigil in Victoria Park tonight to commemorate the victims of the June 4 Incident on the grounds of epidemic prevention (2019 Coronavirus Disease, COVID-19), and the Alliance’s subsequent appeal also failed. After the appeal was rejected, Zou Xingtong announced publicly to the media that he would be at Victoria Park tonight in his personal capacity.

According to the Central News Agency, despite the failure to hold the candlelight vigil, the Alliance announced yesterday that the theme of this year’s rally for the 32nd anniversary of the June Fourth Incident is “For Freedom. Common destiny. Together we struggle”. The Alliance believes that no matter how the regime suppresses, “as long as the hearts of the people do not die, the candlelight will not be extinguished”. The company said it would not participate in the rally tonight in the name of the organization, and its standing committee, members and volunteers would not be present in their relevant capacities.

The report said, but the Alliance called on the people of Hong Kong to be wise and flexible, resolute spirit, in a legal, safe, peaceful and rational situation, in their own way, at the appropriate time and place to mourn the June 4 incident, “so that the truth will not be lost. The Alliance also set up an online condolence section to pay tribute to the “martyrs” who sacrificed their lives for democracy.
