The New York Post published an exclusive report on October 14 that email records obtained from a laptop that was sent for repair show that Vadym Pozharskyi, an advisor to the board of directors of Ukrainian gas company Burisma Holdings, sent an email to Biden’s second son on April 17, 2015. Hunter Biden, for helping him introduce then-Vice President Biden in Washington. President Trump and his Republican supporters have accused Hunter Biden and his associates of having conflicts of interest related to their business activities in Ukraine during the Obama administration.
Hunter Biden served on the board of directors of Bristol-Myers Squibb Company from April 2014 to April 2019, and his father, Biden, was in charge of the Obama administration’s engagement with Ukraine after the country’s 2014 crisis. As a member of the company’s board of directors, Hunter Biden’s monthly salary was said to have been as high as $50,000 a month. The politically right-leaning New York Post provided the emails from Trump’s lawyer, Robert Costello, a lawyer for former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Costello, in turn, obtained the documents from a computer repair shop in Delaware, where Biden used to serve as a senator.
The owner of the computer repair store reported that a customer took the Apple MacBook Pro laptop in for repair in April 2019. The computer had suffered water damage and the owner had neither paid the repair fee nor retrieved it after the repair was completed. The store owner then made several attempts to contact the customer who brought the computer in, without success, and then copied the information contained in the computer. According to the report, the owner could not confirm that the laptop had ever belonged to Hunter Biden, but said that it had a sticker from the Beau Biden Foundation, named after Biden’s late eldest son.
Among the files recovered from the computer was an email allegedly from the number three man in Brisma’s executive branch, Perzhagharski. The email that was exposed was sent from Perzhagharski to Hunter Biden’s email address. In the email, he wrote to Hunter Biden, “Dear Hunter, Thank you for inviting me to Washington, D.C. and for giving me the opportunity to meet and spend some time with your father”. It was really an honor and a privilege, and as we talked about last night, it would be nice to have a cup of coffee today,” Perzhareski continued. You see? I can come to your office later around noon, before I leave for the airport.” This email is dated April 17, 2015. At the time, Hunter Biden had been a director of Brisma for nearly a year.
Also found on the laptop was a 12-minute video showing Hunter Biden having sex and using drugs with an unidentified woman, as well as several other indecent photos, the report said. The FBI sent agents to remove the laptop as evidence and gave the owner a receipt for the computer. The repair store owner revealed that he had copied the contents of the computer’s hard drive before reporting it to the FBI. The New York Post report provides a copy of the computer’s seizure receipt from the U.S. District Court in Delaware, part of an email from Perzhagharski to Hunter Biden, and private photos allegedly taken from the computer, including family photos of Biden and Hunter Biden, among others.
Previously, in the face of questions from Trump and Republicans about Hunter Biden’s alleged conflict of interest while serving in Ukraine, Biden has maintained that he had no knowledge of Hunter Biden’s business dealings. One of the claims Trump has made is that, in order to protect his son, Biden worked to oust Viktor Shokin, the former Ukrainian attorney general who was trying to investigate alleged corruption at Brismar, while in office. When questioned, Hunter Biden said that joining the company’s board would be “bad judgment.
A spokesman for the Delaware office of the FBI responded to the newspaper’s inquiry about the laptop mentioned in the report, saying that his office could not confirm or deny the existence of the investigation. Hunter Biden’s attorney declined to comment on the details of the report, but criticized Giuliani as a conspiracy theorist. According to Hunter Biden’s attorney, George R. Mesires, “Giuliani has been publicly spreading unreliable conspiracy theories about the Biden family, openly relying on forces with ties to Russian intelligence.” Perzhakharsky and the Biden campaign also did not respond to requests for related questioning.
