In response to media inquiries, the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) announced last year that since May 20, 2016, SEF has received a total of 149 cases of missing Chinese nationals in China, 67 of which have not yet been able to obtain specific information about their whereabouts.

According to the report, Chiu explained that these cases are currently being counted one by one, and 101 of them have confirmed the whereabouts of the Taiwanese people, some of whom have returned to Taiwan or their places of detention and the progress of the cases are known; another 48 cases have not yet been confirmed, and it is possible that they have lost contact with each other or failed to get in touch with their Chen lovers, as is the case with the existing cases.

As for those who were accused by the other side of being “Taiwan spies,” Chiu also said that the Land Commission will protect the safety of the cases, respect the wishes of the families, and try to provide assistance.
