Mao Hongtao, secretary of the party committee of Chengdu University, has been out of contact since Thursday, when he wrote a desperate letter complaining that he was being ostracized by President Wang Qingyuan’s “interest group. Local police said Friday that they had found Mao Hongtao’s body.
They found the body in a local river on Friday morning, the Wenjiang District Branch of the Chengdu Municipal Public Security Bureau said in an official Weibo post. With the combination of field investigation and preliminary investigation work, they confirmed that the deceased was Mao Hongtao, and initially determined that he was drowned, ruling out a criminal case.
The media previously reported that Mao Hongtao posted a text in a WeChat circle of friends on Thursday. The screenshots show that Mao Hongtao said in the letter that he had been working at Chengdu University for more than a year and was already “bleeding from head to toe. He also accused President Wang Qingyuan of creating interest groups and “independent kingdoms” at the university, and that he himself was the most marginalized of the three party secretaries.
