Three days of record-breaking neoconavirus infections in Germany and a quarantine by the German president. The rapid increase in the epidemic raises further concerns. German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Germany has entered a severe period of the epidemic. She called on people to limit social interactions and travel.
According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, a security guard close to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier tested positive for the new coronavirus, and Steinmeier was tested on Saturday, but the results were not available Saturday afternoon. Steinmeier is now in quarantine.
According to the German Broadcasting Union, the number of new coronavirus infections in Germany jumped further, with 7,830 new cases diagnosed on Saturday, breaking the record for three days in a row. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has issued an urgent appeal to citizens to do so. In her weekly television video, she urged people to limit family interactions and restrict travel. She said, “I ask you, don’t do any unnecessary traveling. Do not engage in any unnecessary celebrations. Please stay in your own home as much as possible.”
Merkel added that Germany is in a “very serious phase” of the neo-crown pandemic. The neo-crown virus is spreading faster than when it started six months ago. In this situation, simply keeping your distance and wearing a mask is no longer enough. “We must now take another step forward. Science clearly shows us that the spread of the virus depends directly on the number of contacts and encounters each of us has.”
By contrast, Germany is the country that has been more successful in stopping the neo-coronavirus pandemic. Merkel previewed the end of a relatively easy summer and the tough months ahead. How the neo-coronavirus will develop over the winter will be determined in the coming days and weeks. Merkel said, “We will all decide this through our actions.”
In order to contain the spread of the virus, everyone who has had contact with an infected person must be notified in order to break the chain of infection. The health sector is indeed “great,” but when the number of infected people is too high, their workload will be too heavy to keep up.
For this reason, Chancellery Minister Braun predicted that more aid workers and university students will be needed to complete the work of tracking down those who have been in contact.
Bavarian Governor Söder warned that it would be very dangerous if Germany, like the Netherlands, France, Spain and the Czech Republic, could not track all those who had been in contact with infected people. It would then be necessary to restrict contact altogether, and city closures or similarly strict measures would have to be taken.
The Robert Koch Institute in Berlin announced Saturday that 7,830 new patients were diagnosed in a single day, more than 500 more than were diagnosed on Friday, reaching an all-time high. The total number of patients in Germany was 356,387. The number of deaths increased by 33 in a single day to a total of 9767.
